La Plata (Het Zilver), zoals de naam van de stad was in die tijd, was de vestigingsplaats van de Real Audiencia de Charcas, de vertegenwoordiging van de Spaanse koning met belangrijke regerings-, juridische en militaire functies voor de hele regio van wat tegenwoordig Zuid-Peru, Bolivia, Paraquay en een belangrijk deel van Argentinie is. Er was een belangrijke Jesuitische universiteit.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"group segmentsize1\"><div class=\"full-width-text-block \"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De schat van de partituren is jarenlang bewaard gebleven, terwijl in ander belangrijke koloniale plaatsen als Lima in Peru veel van de materialen verloren gingen door brand en andere rampen. Onder de composities bevinden zich werken van auteurs uit de zeventiende en achtiende eeuw, anonieme en bekende (zoals Pedro Xim\u00e9nez de Abril y Tirado, Juan de Araujo, Antonio Dur\u00e1n de la Mota en Blas Tard\u00edo Guzm\u00e1n), werken die nog nooit uitgevoerd zijn, tenminste niet en de laatste tweehonderd jaar. Ze waren gecomponeerd om in de Kathedraal van Sucre en in de kerk van het Klooster van San Felipe de Neri ten gehore te worden gebracht. De meesten behoren tot de barokstijl, maar ook zijn er romantische en renaissancestukken.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De uitdaging om deze partituren te restaureren en uit te voeren is enorm, maar is in eerdere jaren aangegaan met behulp van de Verenigde Naties (via hun programma\u00b4s UNDP en UNESCO) en de laatste tijd via verschillende nationale entiteiten, als het Nationaal Archief en Bibliotheek van Bolivia (ABNB) en de Culturel Stichting van de Centrale Bank van Bolivia. Het succes van het tweejaarlijkse barokmuziekfestival in de Jezuitische Missiedorpen van de Chiquitan\u00eda, in het oostelijke laagland van Bolivia, was een belangrijke inspiratiebron. Sindsdien wordt dit Barokmuziekfestival elk jaar herhaald gedurende de Goede Week (week voor pasen, meestal in de maand abril), op initiatief van een aantal jonge musici.
